This artistic deck was born from the collaboration of artivist Diego Tigrotto and tarologist Libera Ligorio with the idea of transposing the Arcana of the Tarots of Marseille into Sex Positive concepts:
"These are themes that need to be explored, discussed, and elaborated. We live in a time in which sex is everywhere but mostly for commercial use, with little attention to the sensations and emotions that this energy generates."
This tarot deck highlights the magic and many facets of sexual expression through 80 original illustrations created by 35 international artists with different gender identities and sexual orientations.
This project was supported by the Italian Cultural Association La Tana Libera Tutt, devoted to the promotion of Sex Positivity through workshops, meetings, and parties, and realized via a Kickstarter campaign with over 200 individual backers.
How to Use this Deck
Tarology readings can reveal what the psyche has not consciously expressed. To make sure you can use this deck for readings, Diego and Libera have kept the traditional Marseilles symbols.
You can explore themes that affect you personally by centering yourself in the “here and now”. This helps you uncover potentials and hidden sides that emerge through the symbol. You can see this deck as a “companion” that invites you to see things from another point of view. It works even better if you talk about the cards and themes with another person by doing readings together.
Sex Positive Tarot can be used for consultations but also as a tool to talk about intimate experiences if you dive into the content they offer. The accompanying book goes into detail and explains in-depth concepts and meanings of the cards of the deck. The book includes a preface by the Erotarot reader Nuri Capitan.
The 4 suits
The suits are the keystone of the Minor Arcana. They have distinctive characteristics and connotations and these have been transposed into values that are vital to the makers' view on Sex Positivity.
Based on the seed of Cups: represents the spirit, feelings, and the element of water.
Each person is entitled to embrace sexuality in a personal way, without judgment, guilt, or shame that derives from standards, traditions, or religious morals.
The symbol of this seed is a kinky shoe to acknowledge that all fetishes are welcome and to indicate the freedom to dress in any possible way without shame.
Based on the suit of Swords: represents the conscience, intellect, and the element of air.
The only possibility to live a free sexuality is to know that your desire to do or not to do something will be respected and your space will not be invaded.
Consent culture empowers us to play in all sorts of ways, feeling safe, because we are asked before engaging and because NO is NO.
The symbol of this suit is a flogger: a tool used in BDSM where negotiating boundaries is the base for any interaction.
Based on the seed of Pentacles: represents matter, needs, and the element of earth.
Sex is a powerful energy, that can stir so many emotions, create life, or also cause health issues. Being aware of all these possibilities is a key element, being connected with ourselves and the people we interact with.
The symbol of this seed is a condom, a tool to prevent sexually transmitted infections, HIV, and unwanted pregnancies.
Based on the seed of Wands: represents sex, creativity, and the element of fire.
The whole body is a tool for pleasure, that can be explored in many different ways, with techniques & practices and also using devices that can extend our reach in finding sensations that we haven't tried before.
The symbol of this seed is a rainbow dildo, symbolizing the variety of possibilities there are to play and find pleasure.
